BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech junior linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has been named a Second-Team Preseason All-American by Sports Illustrated, the publication announced Wednesday.
A consensus second-team All-ACC selection as a sophomore, Edmunds ranked second on the team with 106 total tackles last season and tied for the team lead with 18.5 tackles for loss. His TFL total tied for the most by a Tech player since Cols Colas collected 19.0 tackles for loss in 2002. Edmunds also collected a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, 4.5 sacks and an interception that came in the Belk Bowl victory over Arkansas.
The Danville, Virginia native adds the SI honor to his slew of preseason accolades, including watch list appearances for the Bednarik Award, the Nagurski Trophy and the Butkus Award. Edmunds was also one of three Hokies to named the Preseason All-ACC Football Team.
Virginia Tech opens the season against West Virginia at FedExField in Landover, Md. on Sunday, Sept. 3.
