2013: Played in all 13 games … Saw action on 61 plays at the primary holder on field goals and PATs … Was in on two special teams plays in the season opener against Alabama … Was on for seven plays against Western Carolina … Logged five special teams plays at East Carolina and six against Marshall … Was in to hold four times at Georgia Tech … Held for kicker Cody Journell on all four PAT attempts in the win over North Carolina … Was in to hold on all five of kicker Cody Journell’s field goal attempts, as well as the lone PAT in the win over Pittsburgh … Was in on 4 plays against Duke … Was the holder for Cody Journell’s 56- and 47-yard field goals at Boston College … Was in to hold six times in the win at Miami and five times against Maryland … Held the ball on all three of Eric Kristensen’s field goals, as well as the PAT at Virginia … Saw action on three plays in the Sun Bowl.

2010: Worked on the scout team while redshirting in the fall … Had a 340-pound front squat during the off-season and improved on all four major lifts … Threw a 69-yard TD pass to Randall Dunn in the first full scrimmage of the spring … Was 4-for-8 passing for 96 yards in that scrimmage … Was 7 of 16 for 127 yards, one TD and one interception during scrimmage work … Hit 2 of 4 passes for 12 yards in the Maroon-White game and added a 13-yard run … Also worked as the holder for field goals and PATs … Named to the 2010-11 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2009: Entered school in January as a greyshirt … Went through the off-season program … Completed 3 of 4 passes in limited scrimmage duty during the spring for 18 yards … Went 4-for-7 passing the in the spring Maroon-White game for 50 yards, including a 26-yard completion to Xavier Boyce.
High School: Became the first four-year starter at quarterback for Blacksburg High and finished as the school’s all-time leading passer … Played for Coach Dave Crist … Threw for over 1,700 yards as a senior in 2008 and added another 650 yards and five touchdowns rushing … Tossed four TD passes and ran for another score in a game against Northside … Was a four-time all-district pick and was all-state his senior year … Lettered four years in baseball, winning all-district honors all four seasons and setting school season and career records for stolen bases … A three-year all-state honoree in track.
