The Notebook
Incoming Virginia Tech freshman football player Dakota Jackson has been selected to compete for Team USA at the 2012 IFAF Under-19 World Championship, to be held June 30-July 7 at Burger Stadium in Austin, Texas. Jackson is a tight end from Roanoke’s Northside High School who signed with the Hokies in February and will be a freshman this fall.

Jackson will be part of a 45-man Team USA roster that will compete against teams from American Samoa, Austria, Canada, France, Japan, Panama and Sweden. According to the team’s website, the squad consists of graduating seniors and soon-to-be seniors from around the country.

The first Team USA for the world championships was assembled in 2009. Former Hokie David Wilson was the MVP during the world championships and was selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He was joined on that team by current Hokie Tariq Edwards, who played linebacker for the red, whit and blue. Edwards, from Cheraw, S.C., will be a redshirt junior for the Hokies this fall.
