Tech cross country teams ready to return to action
Both squads will be competing at the VT Alumni Invite on Friday evening

BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech cross country teams returns to the course on Friday evening for the VT Alumni Invite, which will be held at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course on Virginia Tech’s campus.

Nine schools will be bringing their teams to Tech’s campus to compete, including in-state school such as Radford, Liberty, VMI, Longwood and Lynchburg College. Student-athletes from out-of-state schools Ohio and Akron also will be in attendance. A total of 224 student-athletes will be competing.

The meet will mark the second of the season for both Tech squads. Daniel Rau, a Tech runner running unattached, won the men’s race at the Hokie Invite two weeks ago, while Kayla Richardson, a Tech freshman from Blacksburg, won the women’s race in her collegiate debut.

The Hokies’ alumni 4K race will start things, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Some of the former runners include Ken Coddington (Class of 1985), Alice Coddington Gaines (Class of 1992), Frances Dowd (Class of 2013), Madalyn Nuckols (2015) and Sarah Rapp (Class of 2015) along with Darren Barlow, Juan Campos and Julie Wiemerslage, three runners who concluded their careers this past season.

The women’s 6K race will begin at 6 p.m., while the men’s 8K race starts at approximately 6:40 p.m.
