BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s cross country squad received 2009 USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors, the coaches association announced on Monday.
The Tech men compiled a cumulative team grade point average of 3.10, and joined seven other Atlantic Coast Conference schools in garnering the accolade. The ACC tied the SEC for the most members to win all-academic team recognition.
The Hokies placed fifth at the conference cross country championships and eighth at the NCAA Southeast Regional to close out the 2009 campaign. Seniors Paul LaPenna and Devin Cornwall both earned All-ACC academic cross country honors on March 2.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
