Facing the Eagles: All-time, the Hokies are 21-17 against the Eagles, but have dominated the series in Blacksburg. Tech is 14-5 at home against Boston College and that includes winning nine straight dating back to 2010 - series sweeps in 2010, 2012 and 2015. In fact, the last time the Hokies lost an ACC game at home to BC was March 26, 2006, 9-7 in 10 innings. Tech has outscored the Eagles by a 59-29 count (6.55 to 3.22 runs per game) in those nine games. Overall since 2010, the Hokies lead the series 13-5.
Tech back in front, leading the nation in home runs: The Hokies and Wake Forest have been battling back and forth the past month for the nation's lead in home runs. With its five hit on Tuesday night, Tech has taken back the lead by one over the Demon Deacons - 49 to 48. Sitting in a tied for third is Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and Mercer all with 43. Since the Hokies have been a member of the ACC (since 2005), Tech has surpassed 40 home runs hit in a season now six times and 50 just three times. Next up is the 2013 squad, that hit 55 long balls, followed by the 2011 team's 60. The most home runs hit by the Hokies in an ACC season is 81 back in 2010.
Home run totals a team effort: The 2010 team is the last squad to have at least five Hokies hit more than five home runs. The 2017 squad currently has five members with at least six long balls led by Sam Fragale's nine, while Ryan Tufts, Mac Caples, Joe Freiday, Jr. and Rahiem Cooper have six each. Two others - Tom Stoffel and Nick Anderson - currently have four. Back in 2010, eight Hokies hit at least five, led by Steve Domecus and Buddy Sosnoskie, who each hit 13 to lead the team. Austin Wates and Ronnie Shaban both had eight, Tim Smalling and Michael Seaborn both hit seven and Andrew Rash added six. Anthony Sosnoskie ended the year with five.
Hokies second in nation turning the double play: Entering the weekend, Tech has turned 32 double plays, which is second in the country, and is two more than the 30 the had all of last season. In their history in the ACC, the most double plays the team has turned in a single season is 62, in 62 games back in 2013, while the highest per game average was 1.15 (59 in 51 games) in 2005. The Hokies are currently turning 1.19 double plays per game.
