BLACKSBURG – Chosen by the Virginia College Sports Information Directors (VaSID) and announced today, redshirt-sophomore Nick Anderson has been named to the 2016 VaSID University Division All-State Baseball team as a second team selection in the outfield.
The San Diego, California, native led the Hokies with a .339 batting average, which was also 19th in the ACC, and a .483 on-base percentage. Anderson started in 45 games and played in 50 total and was in the top five on the team in eight other offensive categories including second in hits (59), home runs (4) and slugging percentage (.418) and was third in doubles (13) and total bases (84).
This season, Anderson hit one of Tech's two grand slams in 2016, versus Miami on March 11, 2016 in the Hokies 14-3 win over the then No. 5 Hurricanes. Also, with Sam Fragale, became the first two Hokies to hit back-to-back home runs in an ACC game since March 17, 2012 (Jake Atwell, Mark Zagunis at Georgia Tech) when they went back-to-back at Virginia on May 20, 2016.
