Career Highlights: Became just the third Tech true freshman to earn a starting win on the mound in an ACC game when he picked up the victory in an 11-3 decision at Duke on April 26, 2015 (Justin Wright, 2008 and Mathew Price, 2009) … He retired the last five batters in that game, then tossed 5.2 perfect frames in his next start versus Boston College (May 3) to register 22 straight outs, the longest streak ever in a Tech uniform against ACC competition ... Earned his first collegiate save with a scoreless ninth against No. 1 Virginia on March 15, 2015 in Hokies' 6-5 victory ... Made the season-opening start at USC Upstate (Feb. 17, 2017) to mark the first Hokie to make back-to-back Opening Day starts since David Cross (2006-07).
2017: Appeared in 17 games and made seven starts on the mound … Posted a 6.24 ERA in 57.2 innings pitched, struck out 63 batters (second-most on team), walked 30 and posted a 2-6 record … Picked up wins in starts at Nevada (Feb. 24) and versus Boston College (April 2) … Tossed a season-high 6.0 innings in starts versus Florida State (March 17 and at Pitt (March 24) … Tossed a season-high 5.2 innings in relief at Miami (May 20) and threw at least 1.0 innings in seven appearances out of the pen … Inherited eight runners and two of them scored … Retired 5-of-10 first batters faced in relief outings … Tied a career-high with nine strikeouts at Duke (March 10) and had at least five strikeouts in eight games … Struck out at least two batters 12 times ... Pitched a total of 33 scoreless innings, including 4.2 consecutive … Also, threw nine perfect frames, struck out the side once, and, at one point, retired six straight batters … Had five double plays turned behind him, four were GDPs … In the NCAA, at the end of the regular season, ranked tied for 100th in strikeouts per nine innings (9.83) ... 2016: Started a team-high 14 games and pitched once out of the bullpen … Had a 6.75 ERA in a total of 76.0 innings (second on the team), struck out a team-high 74 batters, walked 34, and posted a 3-7 record … Posted five quality starts … Tossed a career-high 7.2 innings at Louisville on April 4, while throwing at least 6.0 innings in six starts ... Struck out at a season-high nine batters versus Delaware (Feb. 26), a team season-high, and struck out at least five nine times … Twice struck out the side - in the fifth against Delaware and in the first at North Carolina (April 10) ... Pitched a total of 45 scoreless innings, including 5.0 consecutive … Also, threw 15 perfect frames and, at one point, retired 10 straight batters … Had seven double plays turned behind him, all GDPs ... His 74 strikeouts were tied for seventh among ACC pitchers at the end of the regular season.
2015: Appeared in 20 games (second most on the team) and made five starts – his last five appearances of the season … Had a 4.91 ERA in a total of 44.0 innings, struck out 35 batters, walked 23, and posted a 2-1 record with one save … In his five starts, had a 3.25 ERA (best on the team) in 27.2 innings, while opponents hit just .222 against him … Posted three quality starts, including a 8.2 inning, one-run allowed effort against Boston College (May 3) … Overall, opponents hit .252 against him (third lowest on the team) … Inherited 11 runners and allowed six to score for a 45.5 percent held rate … Struck out at least two batters eight times, including a season-high six in his first start at ETSU on April 15 ... High School: Earned varsity letters all five years while playing for Coach Rene Gauthier at Boston Latin School … Was a two-time Dual-County League All-Star ...
