Last year, Tech sent nine wrestlers to the tournament with three - Joey Dance, Devin Carter and Chris Penny - earning All-America honors. Dance became the first freshman in program history to step on the podium and Carter became the first finalist in program history, as he took second at 141 pounds. Virginia Tech as a team placed eighth in the country at the tournament, a program-best, and has placed in the top 11 at the last three tournaments. Over the past five seasons, Tech has sent an average of eight wrestlers (out of a possible 10) to the Big Dance and seen its national prominence rise under head coach Kevin Dresser.
