Dedicated to its motto,

Ut Prosim

(That I May Serve), Virginia Tech takes

a hands-on, minds-on approach to education, preparing scholars to be

leaders in their fields and communities. Since its founding as a land-grant

college in 1872, Virginia Tech has grown to an enrollment of over 32,000.

With a strong presence in the National Capital Region, Roanoke, and on

the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia, as well as an international campus

in Europe, Virginia Tech offers the widest range of degree choices in Virginia

and is the state’s leading research institution. Tech offers approximately

240 undergraduate and graduate degree programs and $494 million in

research expenditures each year.

The university’s undergraduate colleges are: College of Agriculture

and Life Sciences; College of Architecture and Urban Studies; College

of Engineering; College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; College of

Natural Resources and Environment; College of Science; and the Pamplin

College of Business. At the postgraduate level is the Graduate School,

the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Virginia Tech

Carilion School of Medicine, a public-private partnership with Carilion

Clinic in Roanoke.

The desire to serve is deeply ingrained in Virginia Tech’s learning,

discovery and engagement. More than a motto,

Ut Prosim

(That I May

Serve) is a value system that guides students’ decisions and helps mold

them into responsible citizens of the world.
