BLACKSBURG, Va. - The #RV/RV Virginia Tech women's basketball team returns to Cassell Coliseum, after picking up a pair of road wins last week, to host Morgan State on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.

THE HOKIES (7-1, 0-0 ACC)
Virginia Tech knocked off then-No. 8 Tennessee, 57-43 the last time out. Vanessa Panousis led the team with 21 points, hitting 6-of-6 from the free throw line, in the final 1:10 to help secure the win. Panousis also drained 5-of-8 from outside the arc. She earned espnW National Player of the Week honors as well as ACC Player of the Week honors for her performance. Regan Magarity tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Chanette Hicks added nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Tennessee led by as many as nine in the opening half of the game, going up 17-8 with 7:22 to go before halftime. The teams traded baskets, but the Hokies closed out the quarter outscoring the Lady Vols 8-4 to go into the break down 25-22. Magarity and Panousis came out firing in the third quarter, dropping in a pair of 3-pointers each on the Hokies’ first four possessions of the period as Tech took its first lead off a Panousis long ball with 3:43 on the clock. Tennessee however held the 37-36 advantage going into the final frame. The Lady Vols held the advantage, but a three from Hannah Young followed by a layup from Dominique Powell pushed Tech back in front with 6:37 to go. Tennessee made just one final basket 10 seconds later as Hokies closed out the game with a 13-0 run to seal the win.
The Hokies were named the NCAA Team of the Week after picking up a pair of non-conference Power 5 wins over the past week.
Panousis leads the Hokies, averaging 13.5 points per game. Hicks is adding 10.0 ppg and tallying 3.1 steals and 3.6 assists per game. Young is adding 9.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while Magarity leads on the boards with 7.4 rpg and chipping in 9.0 ppg.
THE LADY BEARS (2-7, 1-1 MEAC)
Morgan State fell to Hampton 65-51 in the team’s last game. Braennan Farrar dropped in 16 points for the Lady Bears. Tykyrah Williams, Zuri White and Lexus Spears each added nine points while White and Spears both tallied 10 rebounds.
At the break, Morgan State trailed Hampton 40-25, but the Lady Bears used a solid third quarter, outscoring Hampton 13-3 to cut the Pirates lead to 43-38. Hampton responded to close out the game with a 22-13 advantage in the final 10 minutes to claim the win.
Farrar leads Morgan State with 13.8 ppg. Williams is adding 8.9 ppg and 4.3 rpg while Spears leads on the glass with 6.1 rpg.
THE SERIES
This is the first meeting between Virginia Tech and Morgan State. The Hokies are 22-4 all-time against teams from the MEAC.
