Virginia Tech set to host College of Charleston
Women's basketball takes on Cougars Sunday at 5 p.m. in Cassell

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is back Cassell Coliseum on Sunday, Nov. 21 as the Hokies host College of Charleston at 5 p.m.

THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech defeated Providence 62-46 the last time out. Sidney Cook led the Hokies with 16 points and eight rebounds. Chanette Hicks tallied 10 points for Tech while Taijah Campbell chipped in nine points and grabbed seven rebounds. Hannah Young tallied seven points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Hokies got out to a big lead in the first half after opening the game with an 11-0 run. Tech held a 28-11 advantage at the break. Virginia Tech took its largest lead of the game, going up 58-22 with 4:22 remaining. The Friars went on a 13-0 run to cut it to 12 late in the fourth, but Tech scored the final four points of the game to secure it.

Vanessa Panousis leads the Hokies early in the season, averaging 12 points and 4.0 assists per game. Young is chipping in 10.8 points and grabbing 6.8 rebounds per game. Hicks is adding 9.5 ppg and recording 2.75 spg. Regan Magarity is adding 9.0 points.

THE COUGARS
College of Charleston picked up the 50-42 win over Weber State in the Cougars’ last game. Three Cougars hit double digits with Breanna Bolden leading the charge with 12 points. Jackie Luna-Castro had 10 points and eight rebounds while Courtney Gardner also chipped in 10 points.

The Cougars held a 20-19 lead at halftime and the two teams were evenly matched in the third quarter with both scoring 16 points in the frame. CofC used a 14-7 scoring advantage in the final quarter to push past Weber for the win.

THE SERIES
This is the first meeting between the two teams. The Hokies are 51-19 all-time against teams from the CAA. Tech’s last win over a CAA team came last season when the Hokies defeated Hofstra 60-43. Panousis had 23 points for Tech in that game while Cook grabbed 14 rebounds.
