BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech announces its 2015-16 women’s basketball schedule. Eighteen home games, including contests against Duke, Virginia, NC State and Pittsburgh highlight this season’s schedule.
The Hokies’ slate includes contests against nine teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year with home games against Pittsburgh and Sweet 16 team Duke. On the road, Tech will clash with tournament teams Syracuse, and Miami as well as national runner-up Notre Dame, Elite Eight teams Florida State and Tennessee and Sweet 16 participants Louisville and North Carolina. Virginia Tech will also host WNIT representatives Radford, NC State, Georgia Tech and Virginia
In addition, Virginia Tech will be featured in three broadcast games. The Hokies will play on RSN when Clemson comes to town on Jan. 18 before turning around and hosting NC State the following game in an RSN televised contest on Jan. 21. Tech will wrap up its TV slate hosting Duke on Feb. 18 in a game aired on ESPN 3. All of Tech’s other home games are scheduled to be broadcast on HokiesXtra.
The Hokies finished last season strong, picking up a pair of wins in the ACC Tournament for the first time in program history to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Tech will open the season on Nov. 13, hosting Presbyterian College and will remain at home to take on George Mason on Nov. 15. The Hokies will open their road schedule on Nov. 18 at Georgetown. Tech will play its first ACC game of the season on Jan. 3, hosting Boston College before going on the road to Louisville on Jan. 7.
The 39th annual ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will take place Wednesday-Sunday, March 2-6 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The Championship will begin with three first-round games on Wednesday, followed by the second round, quarterfinals, semifinals and title contest in successive days. RSN will carry the first three days of action, while ESPNU will have the semifinals and ESPN will televise the championship game at 1 p.m.
RSN reaches in excess of 51.4 million homes and includes Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Carolinas, Fox Sports Florida, Sun Sports, Fox Sports Indiana, Fox Sports Midwest, Comcast Sports Net Mid-Atlantic, New England Sports Network (NESN), the YES Network, the Madison Square Garden Network (MSG) in New York and Root Sports in Pennsylvania. All ACC games produced as part of the RSN package will be available via WatchESPN, but are subject to regional blackout.
