BLACKSBURG – Juniors Samantha Hill and Vanessa Panousis have been selected to compete for Team Canada and Team Australia, respectively, at the 2015 World University Games in South Korea, July 3-14.
The basketball competition will begin on July 4 with the championship round on July 13. Panousis will take to the court first on opening day with Australia squaring off against Taipei at noon local time. Hill’s Canadian team is set to face Sweden at 2:30 p.m. on the same day.
The Australian team captured the silver medal at the last university games in 2013.
Both players have seen time on the international stage, representing their home countries. Hill most recently competed for Team Canada last summer at the William Jones Cup in Taiwan where she helped the Canadians to take the cup. Panousis last competed for Team Australia in 2013 when she helped the u19 team to a third place finish at the FIBA World Championships.
Second only to the Olympics in size, the University Games is open to players under the age of 25.
