Former Tech player returns as assistant coach

BLACKSBURG – Former Virginia Tech women’s basketball player Britney Anderson will return to the Hokies as an assistant coach, as announced Thursday by head coach Dennis Wolff.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Britney Anderson back to Virginia Tech,” said Wolff. “She was a very good player during a terrific period in Tech basketball history. Britney has worked very hard to establish herself as a recruiter and a coach and we believe she will immediately impact our program. Britney’s success on and off the court will serve as a terrific role model for the ladies on our team.”

Anderson played for the Hokies from 2003-07, helping Tech to three NCAA Tournament appearances and a WNIT berth. During her career, Anderson shot an impressive 44.6 percent from the field and averaged 10.2 points during her senior campaign.

“I am very excited to be back at Virginia Tech,” said Anderson. “This university holds a special place in my heart. I am thankful that Coach Wolff has provided me with the opportunity to help give back to a program that has given so much to me.”

Since 2013, Anderson has served as an assistant coach at Radford, where her responsibilities included scheduling, community service and camp coordination while focusing on wing player development and assisting in recruiting and scouting. Under Anderson’s tutelage, the Highlanders were the Big South’s top three-point shooting team (.337) in 2014-15. In addition, Anderson helped develop two All-Big South honorees.

Anderson was also a standout high school player in the NRV, having led Blacksburg High School to the Virginia High School AA Girls’ Basketball State Championship during her senior year. After averaging 18.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game that season, Anderson was named Virginia’s Miss Basketball.

Before joining the staff at Radford, Anderson was a corporate recruiter for M.C. Dean Inc. in Dulles, Va., while also coaching girls’ basketball at Potomac Falls High School and in the AAU ranks with Team Unique u15, Matrix u15, PSPA u12/u16 for five years.
