Vulin named Tech women's basketball assistant
Hokies add 15-year veteran coach to staff

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head women’s basketball coach Dennis Wolff announces the addition of Heather Vulin to his staff as an assistant coach.

"Heather is a talented, experienced coach who will help us in every area,” Wolff said. “She has been involved in successful programs at Sacred Heart and Villanova, and her on-court coaching will help further develop our current players. Heather is a proven recruiter who has been extremely successful in helping shape the roster at Villanova, a perennial post-season participant. Please join me in welcoming Heather and her family to Hokie Nation."

Vulin, a 1999 graduate of Minnesota-Morris, comes to Tech after spending the past seven years as an assistant at Villanova, where she served as the team’s recruiting coordinator while assisting with on-court coaching duties. During her time with the Wildcats, Vulin recruited three state Gatorade Players of the Year, including the Virginia Player of the Year in 2013, as well as seven players who went on to earn Big East All-Rookie honors during their first season. Villanova made post-season play every year since her first recruiting class took the court.

Prior to Villanova, Vulin spent six years at Sacred Heart, where she signed an NEC Rookie of the Year, two Players of the Year and seven All-Conference selections. In addition, her 2009 recruits helped Sacred Heart go undefeated in league play.

Vulin got her start in coaching as a graduate assistant at North Dakota State under the leadership of Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, Amy Ruley.

It's an honor to be a part of Virginia Tech and Hokie Nation,” Vulin said. “I believe in Coach Dennis Wolff and Virginia Tech Women's Basketball and I'm excited to bring my commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the court as well as my passion for recruiting to the program. I feel Virginia Tech offers our current players and our future Hokies the best of both worlds of competing in the ACC and being a part of this amazing university that is so full of tradition and pride.”

Vulin was a two-sport athlete at Minnesota-Morris, earning letters all four years in both basketball and volleyball. She served as team captain in basketball and received Academic All-Conference accolades for both sports. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in secondary education-social sciences, psychology and women’s studies. Vulin received her master’s degree in education from NDSU in 2003.
