Hokies to open ACC Tournament against NC State
Tech faces Wolfpack at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greensboro Coliseum

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to open the 2015 ACC Women's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 4 against 10th-seeded NC State. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Greensboro Coliseum.

THE HOKIES (10-19, 1-15 ACC)
Virginia Tech fell the last time out to Boston College. Rachel Camp had 13 points for the Hokies while Vanessa Panousis tallied 11 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Taijah Campbell added nine points and had a game-high 12 rebounds. Hannah Young chipped in eight points and six boards.

Tech got out to the lead in the first half, but the Eagles kept it close, trailing by four with just over seven minutes to go. The Hokies used an 11-4 run the rest of the way to take a 27-16 lead into the break. BC came out in the second half, tying it up after the first 5:30. The Hokies again used a run to extend their lead to nine, as Panousis and Young combined for three straight from outside. Tech maintained the lead, but BC tied it back up with 1:41 to go. Both teams committed late game turnovers, but the Eagles were able to sink a pair of free throws with three seconds remaining to secure the win.

Panousis leads the Hokies on the season in scoring with 13.3 points per game and handing out 3.2 assists per game. The sophomore guard is third on the ACC list for three-pointers made, averaging 2.4 per game. Rachel Camp is chipping in 12.2 ppg. In addition Camp’s 6.1 rpg is good for 20th in the league. Campbell leads the team with 6.9 rebounds (14th most in the league) while adding 7.9 ppg.

THE WOLFPACK (16-13, 7-9 ACC)
NC State fell at home to then-ranked No. 4 Notre Dame, 67-60. Len’Nique Brown had 16 points for the Wolfpack. Dominique Wilson had 15 and Miah Spencer tallied 12 points and picked up four steals.

The Wolfpack got out to an early lead in the first half, but Notre Dame answered to go up 24-14. NC State got it back down to three, but trailed 37-31 at the break. The Pack again cut it down, pulling within four early in the second half. The Irish used a 20-7 run to pull ahead. NC State was unable to overcome the Irish in the end despite scoring nine of the game’s final 11 points.

Wilson leads the Wolfpack on the season with 14.1 ppg. Spencer is adding 13.4 ppg and has been strong on the defensive side with 53 steals on the season. Brown is adding 10.5 ppg and grabbing 4.7 rpg. Jennifer Mathurin and Carlee Schuhmacher lead the team on the boards with 4.8 rpg each.

THE SERIES
The Hokies trail in the series against NC State, 15-0, including a 73-59 loss to the Wolfpack earlier this season in Raleigh, N.C.

Panousis had 18 points, three assists and a steal for the Hokies. Camp chipped in 12 points while grabbing eight rebounds and handing out four assists. Sidney Cook also had 12 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Wilson dropped in 24 points for NC State while Spencer added 21. Both players also handed out four assists and combined for five steals. Ashley Eli and Chelsea Nelson led the Wolfpack on the glass with six rebounds a piece.

Up Next: The winner advances to play Pitt on Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m.
