Hokies set for trip to Miami
Virginia Tech to face 'Canes on Thursday at 7 p.m.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech women's basketball team is set to travel to Miami for a road game on Thursday, Feb. 5 at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. Game time is set for 7 p.m.

THE HOKIES (10-12, 1-8 ACC)
Virginia Tech fell in a close one at Georgia Tech the last time out. Sidney Cook led all scorers with a career-high 25 points while pulling down 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Vanessa Panousis added 18 points for the Hokies while Taijah Campbell recorded eight.

The Hokies and Yellow Jackets kept it close throughout the game with Georgia Tech holding just a two point 39-37 lead at the break. In the second half, the Hokies took a 52-50 lead with 11:51 to go, but the Jackets answered with a 12-2 run to go on top 62-54 with just over seven minutes left. Virginia Tech pulled within five with just over a minute remaining, but the Jackets connected on 5-of-8 from the line in the final seconds to secure the win.

Rachel Camp leads the Hokies on the season, averaging 14.2 points per game and currently ranks 15th in the ACC in scoring. Panousis is just behind with 14.0 points (16th in the ACC) and handing out 3.5 assists per game to rank ninth in the conference. The sophomore guard is also third on the ACC list for three-pointers made, averaging 2.5. Campbell leads the team with 6.6 rebounds while adding 7.3 ppg.

THE HURRICANES (15-6, 5-3 ACC)
Miami fell to Pitt, 81-66 in the Hurricanes’ last game. Adrienne Motley tallied 17 points for the ‘Canes. Erykah Davenport had 13, Michelle Woods chipped in 11 and Suriya McGuire recorded 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Hurricanes trailed the Panthers by five at the break, but Pitt opened the second half with a 12-2 run to go up by 15. Miami cut it to eight twice in the second half, but would get no closer as the Panthers claimed the win.

Motley leads Miami and ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring this season, averaging 16.6 points per game. Jessica Thomas is adding 9.0 ppg while McGuire is tallying 7.9 ppg and grabbing 5.0 rebounds per game. Jassany Williams leads the Hurricanes on the boards with 6.3 rpg and has tallied 48 blocks this season.

THE SERIES
Miami leads the series between the two teams, 13-6. The Hurricanes won the game earlier this year in Blacksburg, 62-45 on January 11. Tech was led by Camp’s 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Panousis added 11 points and Campbell tallied seven points and five blocks.

Motley led Miami with 22 points. Nigia Greene came in off the bench for 12 points. Williams pulled down a game-high 21 rebounds and recorded eight blocks.
