THE HOKIES (10-10, 1-6 ACC)
Virginia Tech had five players in double-digits the last time out as the Hokies defeated Wake Forest, 76-59. Vanessa Panousis led the charge with 16 points while Sidney Cook added 13. Taijah Campbell, Hannah Young and Samantha Hill added 12 points each. Campbell also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Hokies jumped out to the lead in the first half with Tech leading 39-18 at the break. Tech took its largest lead of the game, going up 24 in the first two and a half minutes. Wake Forest chipped away at the lead, using a 16-4 run to cut it down to 59-51 with 6:40 to go. The Hokies closed out the game, outscoring the Deacons, 17-8 to secure the win.
Rachel Camp is leading the Hokies on the season, averaging 15.0 points per game and currently ranks 12th in the ACC in scoring. Panousis is adding 14.1 points (15th in the ACC) and handing out 3.6 assists per game to rank seventh in the conference. The sophomore guard is also third on the ACC list for three-pointers made, averaging 2.5. Campbell leads the team with 6.9 rebounds and 7.5 points per game.
THE FIGHTING IRISH (19-2, 6-1 ACC)
Notre Dame is coming off a 74-36 win over Clemson. Jewell Loyd dropped in 17 points to lead the Irish. Brianna Turner tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kathryn Westbeld had 11 and Taya Reimer notched 10 points and eight boards.
The Irish got out to a 44-20 lead at the break. In the second half, the Irish allowed just 16 points from the Tigers and held Clemson to just 28.6 percent from the field for the game.
Loyd leads both Notre Dame and the ACC in scoring this season, averaging 21.6 points per game. Turner is adding 15.7 points (eighth in the ACC) and 7.3 rebounds per game. Allen is posting 10.4 ppg and has recorded 104 assists and 31 steals this season. Reimer is chipping in 10.1 ppg.
THE SERIES
Notre Dame leads the series 6-1 and won the game last season 74-48 in Indiana. Panousis led the Hokies with 12 points. Reimer is the top returner for the Irish after tallying 15 points last season. Virginia Tech claimed a 53-50 win on Feb. 9, 2003, the last time the two teams met in Blacksburg. Former Hokie Ieva Kublina had 21 points for Tech. This marks the fifth time in the series that the Irish has been ranked in the top-5.
