35 Win HokiesWBB HokiesWBB HokiesWBB Tim Clark was named Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball Director of Operations in April 2016. He previously had held the same role at James Madison under Brooks since 2010. Prior to that, Clark was a graduate assistant with the program and was in charge of film exchange, overseeing the student team manager program, ordering and maintaining equipment inventory and coordinating and scheduling the practice squad. Clark served four seasons as the head teammanager with the Dukes, which included assisting the coaching staff in executing the day to day operations of the program and extensive experience with film exchange and general office operation. He also completed a full-time full-credit internship, as well as a 450-plus hour coaching education practicum with the program. Basketball is in Clark’s blood, as his sister is currently the head women’s coach at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and his father is the head women’s coach at Trinity College just outside of Tampa, Florida. Clark received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from JMU in 2009 and completed his masters’ degree at JMU in sport and recreation leadership in May 2011. In his role at Tech, he will continue to assist the coaching staff in managing the day-to-day operations of the program, while also working with the travel plans and Hokie Hardwood Club. Shawn Poppie joined the Virginia Tech staff as assistant coach in July 2016. Poppie came to Virginia Tech after serving at Furman for the past three seasons, most recently in the role of associate head coach. During his time, he helped the Paladins to a pair of trips to the postseason. In 2016, the Paladins advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament before falling to co-champion Mercer. Prior to his stint at Furman, Poppie spent two seasons at USC Upstate. Poppie began his career as an assistant coach at Limestone College, where he served as recruiting coordinator. During his tenure, he recruited and signed three all-conference performers and helped the Saints to a 25-7 record, advancing to the NCAA Division II National Tournament in 2012. A 2007 graduate of Limestone, Poppie was a two-time Carolinas- Virginia Athletic All-Conference player. He graduated as the school’s all-time leader in assists (602) and steals (168) and finished third on the scoring list (1,246). Poppie earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management.
