Suggs To Have Surgery Friday
"TD Lee" Web site relaunched

September 12, 2001

BLACKSBURG - Injured Virginia Tech running back Lee Suggs will undergo surgery Friday afternoon to repair a torn ACL and medial meniscus in his left knee. The surgery will be performed by team orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Marc Siegel, at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

Suggs, who injured his knee in the third quarter of the Hokies' 52-10 win over Connecticut, is expected to be on crutches for several days but will begin rehabilitation Saturday.

"We're going to go in and repair the ACL and evaluate the medial meniscus to determine what to do with it," head athletic trainer Mike Goforth said. "Our two main goals for post-operation is pain control and swelling control."

The surgery is expected to last about an hour. If all goes well, Goforth said he expects Suggs to be "around 90 percent for Spring ball and at or near 100 percent for fall practice."

Suggs, a redshirt junior, led the nation last year with 28 touchdowns. He rushed for 99 yards and two scores against UConn to break the school record for both career total touchdowns and career rushing touchdowns.

In addition, the Virginia Tech Sports Information Department is relaunching the "TD Lee" Web site to keep media and fans updated on Suggs' progress throughout the rehab stages. Beginning Monday, Sept. 17, the site, www.hokiesports.com/suggs, will have surgery photos, rehab photos, a journal from Suggs, diagrams, weekly comments from Siegel and Goforth and much more.
