26 FRESHMAN • BUSINESS LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA BOONSBORO COUNTRY CLUB Attending Virginia Tech on The Bruce Golf Endowment C onnor, the 2016 Virginia State Golf Association Junior Player of the Year, is a young man we thought could be a terrific player and he didn’t disappoint. After an ‘eye- opening to college golf’ first round in the highly-regarded Gopher Classic, he never looked back and played very solidly all fall. He was third on the team in scoring with a 72.8 average, had six rounds of par or better and finished second individually at the Janney/VCU Shoot-out with rounds of 67-70-70 (9-under). Connor has excellent course management skills and a bright future in college golf. —Coach Jay Hardwick “ ” CONNOR BURGESS 2017-18 Season –Competed as a member of the starting lineup in every event during the fall … Third on the team in scoring with a 72.87 average … Finished runner-up in just his second collegiate event, the Janney VCU Shootout … Finished 20th in the Bank of Tennessee at Blackthorn and 23rd in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate Amateur –2016 Fox Puss Invitational champion with rounds of 71-66 … Advanced to match play in the 2016 Virginia State Amateur, eventually losing to current Virginia Tech teammate Mark Lawrence Jr. Junior Golf/High School –Honor student and member of the National Honor Society at E.C. Glass High School … Four-year letter winner and golf team captain … Posted rounds of 70-70- 71 to win the 2017 AJGA Greg Norman Junior Championship ... 2017 Junior Valentine Invitational champion … Finished third in the 2017 VSGA Junior Stroke Play Championship … Represented Virginia in the 2017 Virginias/Carolinas team matches … Finished third in the 2017 Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament … Named 2016 Virginia State Golf Association Junior Boys Golfer of the Year … First team All-State selection … Led E.C. Glass to the 2016 VHSL 4A State Golf Championship, finishing third individually … The only player from Virginia to qualify for both the 2016 U.S. Junior and U.S. Amateur Championships, earning medalist honors in the amateur qualifying … Represented Virginia in both the 2016 Virginia/Carolinas Junior Matches and Mid-Atlantic Junior Invitational … Finished fifth in the 2014 U.S. Kids Teen World Championship and was a Junior World Cup qualifier, playing on the victorious U.S. squad … Father, Todd, played golf at Radford University.
