A major focus of the Virginia Tech Athletics Department’s philosophy and vision for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball team is an increased presence in the campus, town, New River Valley and statewide communities. Hokies thus become involved in a wide range of events and causes that stand as important to the Hokie Nation. A major component of this involvement is the team’s contributions to Buzz’s Bunch, the foundation that Buzz Williams brought with him to benefit the community. Hokie fans also see basketball players involved in schools and youth groups, participating in charitable ventures, and giving back to the community that gives so much to them. Another major focus with this team is supporting groups on the Virginia Tech campus, whether it be through participating in pep rallies, lending a hand to fellow students in need, or cheering on other teams at their respective events. Tech strives to produce well-rounded individuals, and involvement in the community is just one phase of that important development.
