Alise Svihla begins her first season as an associate director in the Student-Athlete Academic Support Services office at Virginia Tech. In that role, she serves as the academic advisor for the men’s basketball, women’s basketball and volleyball teams. Svihla comes to Virginia Tech from the University of South Carolina, where she served as the assistant director and academic advisor for the baseball, softball, volleyball and beach volleyball programs in the Dodie Anderson Academic Enrichment Center from July of 2014 until September of 2016. In the fall of 2016, she moved to the Darla Moore School of Business at USC as an undergraduate career manager and instructor. Prior to USC, Svihla was an assistant director in the Student-Athlete Services department at James Madison University from August of 2008 until July of 2014. At JMU, she worked with football, women’s basketball and women’s tennis. She began her career at Florida State, where she spent three years working with undecided students and in the College of Social Science. No stranger to Blacksburg, Svihla is a 2005 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in human development and a minor in psychology. She earned a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs, with a minor in athletic administration from Florida State in 2007. A 2001 graduate of Poquoson High School in Poquoson, Virginia, Svihla resides in Christiansburg. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, trips back home to the beach, and of course, cheering on the Hokies!
