Bruce Garnes is in his second year as the equipment manager for the men’s basketball program. Prior to his current assignment, Garnes spent 17 years in the Hokies’ football office, most recently as deputy director of football operations. In his new assignment, he is responsible for all the athletics equipment needs for the men’s basketball program, as well as assisting with the department’s overall needs. While working with the football program, he served as the liaison between the academic community and football, and he helped the Hokies with their football recruiting efforts. Garnes also assisted with Tech’s football camps and coaching clinics. A native of Martinsville, Virginia, Garnes graduated from Tech with a bachelor’s degree in sport management in 1994. He received a master’s in counseling education from Tech in 1996. In 1998 and 1999, Garnes interned with the Dallas Cowboys in the equipment room. A 1989 graduate of Magna Vista High School in Ridgeway, Virginia, Garnes, 45, and his wife, Ashleigh, reside in Blacksburg.
