#getB3 TTER #ThisIsHome 125 David Jackson is in his 11th season as a strength and conditioning coach at Virginia Tech and his second season as assistant athletics director of strength and conditioning for basketball programs. His dedication and knowledge of all areas of conditioning has been evident in his tenure in Blacksburg, as the Hokies have continued to improve throughout each season and have shown an increased fitness level among all players. Eight years ago, Jackson took over the reins of a new, 4,000-square foot strength and conditioning area in the Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center. Both immediate and long-term benefits have been realized through the center. Two years ago, he oversaw a renovation to the area that now features only the best equipment available. Jackson joined the Hokies following a successful career as a personal trainer in the Southern California area. While in California, he developed personal fitness plans for more than 60 clients to enhance performance and fitness. His list of clients included the children of former hockey great Wayne Gretzky. No stranger to the Virginia Tech basketball program, Jackson played for the Hokies from 1994-97 under the late Bill Foster. He and his twin brother, Jim, played for the Hokies and were members of the 1995 NIT championship team and the 1996 team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Jackson played in 83 games for the Hokies, averaging 6.2 points per game. Prior to working in the personal fitness industry, Jackson was an assistant basketball coach at Fork Union Military Academy during the 1999-2000 season and a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech from 1997-99. Jackson is a 1997 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in health and physical education and a minor in health education. He earned a master’s degree in health education from Virginia Tech in 1999.
