BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech senior cornerback Greg Stroman has been named to the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award and junior linebacker Tremaine Edmunds has been tabbed to the Butkus Award Watch List, the award’s respective committees announced Monday.
The Hornung Award is presented to the most versatile player in college football while the Butkus Award is earned by the nation’s top linebacker.
Stroman was a second-team All-ACC pick by the league’s coaches and a third-team selection by the media after setting career-highs in interceptions (3) and passes defended (13) as a junior. The Bristow, Virginia native was also a key cog on special teams last season where he collected 221 punt return yards and 460 kick return yards. He also posted an 87-yard punt return TD against East Carolina and blocked a field goal attempt at Duke that led to a scoop-and-score.
Edmunds earned second-team All-ACC honors from the league’s coaches, the Associated Press and the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association. The Danville, Virginia native finished the season ranked 15th in the ACC in tackles with 106 and tied for sixth in tackles for loss with 18.5.
